ADCOME: Association pour le Développement, la Communication et l´Environnement

Founded in 1999 by its Executive Director, Mr. Roland KWEMAIN, ADCOME is a non-governmental, non for profit apolitical organization that focus on the empowerment of youths and communities through programs that enhances the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

 

After the inauguration of the organization by His Excellency the Governor of the Southwest Province of Cameroon on September 4, 1999, the success history of the organization can be traced from being the pioneer Internet Service Provider in the province, and also supporting the University Community of Buea by delivering trainings to students, women groups and community based organizations through training programs, seminars and workshops on ICT for development.

 

Today, ADCOME is instituting cutting-edge techniques of learning to schools across Cameroon through ICTs. ADCOME also runs professional IT certification programs under its IT Academy and deploys trainings to its trainees on Leadership and Entrepreneurship that adds value to their formal career training programs. The ADCOME´s Youth Leadership and Entrepreneurship program running in schools nationwide also provides career orientation and counseling in other fields, to support the national economic development strategies. Our programs are receiving positive attractions in communities within the country and we are fast gaining grounds in other countries in Africa.

 

Being a current leader in bridging IT and Education in Cameroon, ADCOME has developed a unique formula for combining various components and delivering quality ICTs services to schools. Our approach actively encourages the enthusiastic participation of our various stakeholders, to build on our unique selling points and contribute to the development of the communities.

The School Connectivity Program: Facts and figures
  • ADCOME provides technical expertise  for the rollout of the program (conception, installation and Management Multimedia Centers)
  • An average of 10 multimedia centers is installed per year under the framework of the ADCOME - MTN Cameroon partnership convention.
  • 34 Multimedia Centres in secondary schools are already operational nationwide within the framework of the School Connectivity Program.
  • More than 40 young professionals have been inducted and deployed to deliver trainings on ICT to students and staff of the various schools.
  • More than 75,000 students, 4,000 teachers impacted through the program.
  • ADCOME delivers Advanced IT Certification Courses under program scheme in schools supported by its IT Academy Program and IT Certification partners.
  • The Cameroon project was showcased as 2007 Best Case Practice project within the MTN network in 21 Countries in Africa and Middle East – Meeting of MTN Corporate Social Investment Managers, 24 – 26 April 2007, Cape Town – South Africa.
  • ADCOME received the Global Junior Challenge Award for the CIAC project and School Connectivity Program (enhancing the delivery of ICTs to schools and communities in Cameroon) – Rome, Italy; October 5, 2007.
  • ADCOME and MTN working to rollout program to Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast.
  • ADCOME to expand initiatives to Mali, Ivory Coast, Benin and Burkina – Faso by December 2008.
  • ADCOME is consolidating partnerships with many IT industry leaders, the NEPAD e-Commission and other educational institutions to sustain programs in Cameroon and expansion countries. Partners include – Microsoft (Africa), AMD (US), Cisco, Oracle, Digital Links International (UK), Learnthings Africa (SA), Inveneo (US), Southern University (US).
  • ADCOME targets a 250% increase in number of centers in Cameroon by December 2008.
  • ADCOME is also working for a prometric center under the ADCOME IT Academy for different professional IT certification examinations as support strategy for the different community projects.

  • The School Connectivity Program is a socially responsible initiative soliciting funding to reach out to more schools and communities in Cameroon and other African countries. Program falls within the framework of the MTN Cameroon’s Social Investment Initiative on Education, Science and Technology under the MTN Foundation.
